We have just launched Aster Mail. It’s free, and you can sign up for it today.

Your current email provider can read everything in your inbox. They know who you talk to, what you purchase, where you bank, where your next doctor’s appointment is, and who you talk to. They use it to train their AI models, sell your data, and sell you advertisements. We think that’s a problem, so we built a private email that works differently.

Aster encrypts everything locally on your device before it ever touches our servers. We do not have the keys to decrypt it, and we can’t read your emails even if we wanted to - we really, really don’t want to.

What we actually created

Your data is truly end-to-end encrypted. Not “encrypted in transit” or “encrypted at rest” in marketing language, we mean your subjects, message bodies, attachments, contacts, folders - all of it gets completely encrypted locally on your device with the keys only you hold.

Quantum-safe from the start. We pair classical X25519 with ML-KEM-768 on every single account. If somebody is stockpiling your personal encrypted traffic today, hoping that quantum computers can crack it later, they will be disappointed.

Our code is open source. Client, UI, cryptography, it’s all AGPL-3.0 on our GitHub. We are not asking you to trust our word with our encryption. You can go read it yourself or modify it if you would like.

Life story not required. We don’t require a phone number, a credit card, nothing. All you need is a user name and password to sign up. The less we know about you, the better.

Your keys follow you. We use standard OpenPGP portable systems, so if you ever leave Aster, your keys will follow. We are not interested in locking you into our ecosystem or preventing you from exporting your personal mail.

Pricing

Our free plan is a real free plan. We give you 10 GB of storage, 5 aliases, custom domains, and the same exact encryption as every paid tier. We will never charge you to protect your personal privacy.

If you want more features or more storage:

• Supernova ($17.99/mo) - maximum storage, unlimited everything, and dedicated support.

What’s live and what’s next

The mail app is located at app.astermail.org and desktop apps are located on the download page. Our mobile app is still in development, but it is coming soon for Android and iOS.

After we finalize our mail release, we plan to start on our encrypted drive, calendar, authenticator, and much more. We will share more information on those as they are coming together.
